Out of the Frying Pan...
..and onto another ferry
American Camp Walk
Such a peaceful walk around San Juan Island's American Camp. They certainly had the best view. Not a bad posting.
This Way
Not quite the orienteers nightmare
Picket Posts
Look don't touch. This fence sectioned off the American quarters of the military camp on San Juan Island
Dick and Jane
Classic American staple
Gravity and Friction
Two powerful forces that keep this old school fence together
Grass Plains
The warm colors of the landand cool skies made my visit to San Juan Island very calming.
House on the Prairie
It was good to be the king
Misplaced
How did this massive boulders make an appearance on this remote island
Future Flowers
A gust of wind away from starting a new family of flowers
Path More Traveled
Despite the trampled trail, I had this island to myself. So calm and so peaceful. I was not expecting to be so reflective on a side trip
Rock, Grass, Cloud
A new game? So I've decided that rocks make up a pretty impressive landscaping option.
Big Boulder
Sure I'll take a quick rest here.
Beauty In Death
Though the grasses and plants were nearly dead, the color of death was very soothing.
Sea of Yellow
The tan and yellow color of the windblown grasses gave the landscape a sense of eternalness
Patrolling
Despite possible sickness issues, this would have been an ideal location to be stationed. No complaints from me.
Go On...
Behind me was the camp and ahead was the sea.
No Pines
Off into the body of the camp, there were no pine trees (or any trees come to think of it) so where did this guy come from?
Earth Waves
Waves are not exclusive to the seas. The grasses can produce an equally impressive wave. Though I suspect the moon is not at play here
Ushered Forward
I'm taking notes on how I want to incorporate these landscape elements into future land of my own.
Life Back In the Camp
I wasn't the only living thing enjoying the scenery and breeze. A splash of purple in a sea of tans and yellows
Grass, Rock, Sea, and Sky
My favorite elements. My approach to the sea. Two posts from now you'll see my time on the coast.
Changing Lands
In just a few steps I went from cascades of tall grass to the rocky cropped coast.
Way Back
After my time on the coast (future post) I meandered back across the island towards the American Camp
